  • Birds of Prey Northwest is rebuilding its St. Maries center after a windstorm knocked down 25 ponderosa pines, damaging aviaries and injuring birds. The nonprofit will host a fundraiser and silent auction on Sunday at The Coeur d’Alene Resort starting at 2:30 p.m. & raptor shows will follow.  Coeur d'Alene Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lottery officials reported that a winning ticket for $1 million was sold in North Idaho recently, and they expect the win to boost local interest in upcoming draws.  KXLY
  • The Idaho Lottery confirmed that one winning $1,000,000 raffle ticket (number 326200) was sold in Kootenai County on Dec. 31 at 10:00 a.m., while winning tickets in Jefferson, Payette, and Bannock counties also secured top prizes.   • Local students eligible through Inland Power membership must apply by January 15 for the Excellence Award that will offer 15 $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors, college students, and incoming line school students (transcripts, profiles, essays, and two recommendations are required) as the selection committee meets in February.  KXLY

  • The Idaho Lottery said a $1,000,000 raffle ticket sold in Kootenai County has turned one buyer into a millionaire (ticket number 326200) while a similar win was reported in Jefferson County and smaller prizes were awarded in Payette and Bannock.  KHQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Heyburn-based Mountain West Food Group has recalled nearly 3,000 pounds of raw ground beef labeled Forward Farms Grass-Fed after tests flagged an E. coli risk. Consumers are urged to discard or return the 16-ounce packages produced Dec. 16 that must be used or frozen by Jan. 13.  KXLY
  • Flu cases have risen in North Idaho based on local hospital data, with Panhandle Health District confirming the region is now in flu season (2,067 cases recorded). Health experts stress the importance of getting vaccinated as the virus continues to spread.  Coeur d'Alene Press
