- ➤ During December’s Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge, 20 North Idaho nonprofits raised $808,831 to support affordable housing needs — Family Promise of the Palouse contributed $327,791 — as part of a statewide effort to aid nearly 10,000 locals. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Marilee Wallace leads North Idaho Alliance Women of Impact and plans to launch AbunDANCE Rhythm, a dance and yoga fitness program for adults 45+ starting in February (details available online), while NIA schedules a Roundtable series on Jan. 28 at Art Spirit Gallery and speed networking on Feb. 2. - ➤ Beau Monde is hosting a bag sale at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds today from 3 to 7 p.m., where customers pay $10 to fill a bag with clothes, shoes, and accessories or $20 to enter early at 2 p.m. The event has raised nearly $200,000 for charities in 24 years. Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Idaho continues to face a snow drought due to a warm winter and rain rather than snow. Hydrologist David Hoekema warned that without new snowpack, spring and summer will see low stream flows and potential cutbacks in hydropower production (with several local Snotel sites reporting record low levels). - ➤ Kootenai County Fire and Rescue celebrated promotions at a Wednesday pinning ceremony that advanced six members, including Captains Brooks Brown and Rusty Kramer as battalion chiefs, Engineers Tony Blasick and Taylor Carr as captains, and firefighters Mike Cohee and Zero Laulualo as engineers. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Idaho State Police detective Travis Bucher received the Life Saving Award at the ISP District 1 office for his rapid aid when Bob Irwin collapsed in his Sagle home on May 26, 2025 – he administered CPR within two minutes while emergency responders were more than 15 minutes away, and Irwin has since made a full recovery.
