  • A new dumpling restaurant will open Friday in Post Falls, offering diners traditional flavors and a friendly setting.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Registration for the annual Safety Fest of the Great Northwest opens at 8 a.m. today at the North Idaho College Workforce Training Center in Post Falls. The three-day event, scheduled Feb. 18-20, offers free safety training from top instructors (covering topics from fall protection to cyber awareness).  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The first Hubcap Heist brought friendly sports and art contests between two alternative schools as Mountain View Moose beat New Vision Stingrays with events from basketball to an Oreo eating contest held yesterday in Rathdrum + organizers noted the event will grow next year.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • At its monthly meeting Monday evening, the Coeur d’Alene School Board named Lesli Bjerke, who has served since January 2022 and won reelection in November 2025, as its new chair, with Heather Tenbrink as vice chair and two new trustees sworn in (Bjerke previously served as vice chair).  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Tax Commission is considering ending a logging exemption + which may require small timber operators to pay taxes when they harvest or change land use. Kootenai County Forester Colton Smith said many owners often overlook this hidden tax detail.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Sen. Jim Risch announced Wednesday that the USS Idaho’s engine room will be named for former governor and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne — honoring his long service to our state.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Post Falls resident Jeremiah Rodriguez is petitioning to strengthen state animal protection laws after learning that Idaho ranks 48th in protections. He started the petition last week (inspired by a Florida law) and plans to meet with county and city leaders for tougher penalties.  Coeur d'Alene Press
