- ➤ Fallen trees from a December windstorm are being turned into nearly 200 cords of firewood for low-income seniors and others in Rathdrum today — a joint effort by local public works and nonprofit partners to help keep homes warm this winter. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Local school districts offer Feb. 9 lunch menus online while senior centers require phone reservations by set deadlines. Post Falls, Hayden and nearby centers serve meals on varying weekdays — check each center’s info for specific menus and call times. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Ben Morton (a teacher at Lewis-Clark State College) volunteers with the North Idaho Kindness Project, which makes thousands of kindness cards and tokens to uplift local spirits. The project invites residents to join its upcoming Kindness Cards campaign via its website. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Kootenai County Fire and Rescue put their ice rescue training to work when a fawn was trapped in thin ice at Fernan Lake Monday. - ➤ On Jan. 22, Vantage Point hosted the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation meeting to update on paved trails and discuss a 2-mile section west of Post Falls where the 1989 blacktop is cracked and needs a $200,000 repair.
