COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pipe and drum players from the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department will use a $5,000 donation from a fallen firefighter's family to travel to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Maryland while planning further fundraising for the International Association of Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Colorado Springs in September.  KXLY
  • Kootenai County Fire and Rescue honored several team members at an awards banquet today in Post Falls, including launching the new Frank Harwood Award of Excellence posthumously with Chief Pete Holley explaining its importance as the department recovered from a challenging year.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • After years of stalled plans, council approved a design budget Tuesday night for a 1.5-acre off-leash dog park at Corbin Park that could open by the end of 2027. Parks and Recreation Director Kris Ammerman said the park will feature separate fenced enclosures for small and large dogs and an asphalt parking lot.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The free North Idaho Women and Their Money Conference returns June 9 at North Idaho College, offering 18 breakout sessions for 550 attendees and expanding NIC scholarships to $40,000. Registration opens Apr. 24 and runs through June 1, giving local women financial education and support for managing money challenges.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • John Brown Elementary held a Shake Off contest on Feb. 26 in Rathdrum where fifth graders practiced introductions and leadership skills as part of its new Student Leadership and Service Program (preparing them for middle school).  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Post Falls City Council approved a zoning change for Prairie Medical Center on Tuesday to allow a hospital bed tower for inpatient and emergency care. The project will begin with a 14-bed emergency department and advanced imaging center and is planned to expand later with plans for green space.  Coeur d'Alene Press
