  • Avista Utilities is mobilizing crews across North Idaho as a windstorm with gusts up to 100 miles per hour is expected later, following December's outage that left 80,000 homes without power. Customers are preparing for potential outages and can check the utility's website for updates.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Coeur d'Alene High junior Reagan-Edric Cogburn was selected to join the Ella McKeirnan Memorial Fellowship at the Harper Cancer Research Institute at Notre Dame in Indiana this summer — an eight-week, fully funded program providing high school students real lab experience in cancer research.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A high wind warning is in effect from 5 PM today to 11 AM Thursday for Post Falls and nearby areas — gusts up to 65 mph may down trees and power lines, leading to power outages and hazardous travel conditions. Residents are advised to stay indoors and exercise caution if driving.  KHQ
  • The Spokane Riverkeeper launched a community science program along the Spokane River today to invite locals to join environmental efforts + Alexandra Coenjaerts reported live on ways to get involved.  KXLY
