CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested 24-year-old Jack Edward Gribbin after a shot on I-90 near the Beck Road exit on Jan-8 when ISP dispatchers used a blurry car image and video footage to locate him, and he later admitted to a history of violent behavior.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lake City Playhouse opens its production 'I Never Saw Another Butterfly' at 7:30 tonight with a limited run through March 30. The play tells the true story of Jewish children at the Terezin concentration camp (directed by Jessica Peterson) and features local actors.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Idaho Public Television is partnering with LifeOutdoors, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and Idaho Press to invite teens aged 13 to 18 to share outdoor adventures through essays and videos in the My Life Outdoors: Teen Multimedia Contest running through April 3 + winners can earn prizes like a $500 scholarship and a grand prize featuring a day-long rafting trip on the Salmon River and a two-night stay in Stanley.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Students at North Idaho Christian School packaged over 10,000 meals in one day as part of the Feed the Need campaign. More than 250 students, staff and volunteers bagged rice and lentil meals that will be sent to schools and orphanages in Bangladesh — a project aimed at helping those in need.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Gov Little signed a law that raises the grocery tax credit from $120 to $155 a year to help residents pay less for food — the change took effect retroactively from January 1 so people will get the higher credit when they file their taxes next year.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Idaho Senate passed a bill on Thursday to let eligible foster youth stay in the system until age 23. The law covers youth in school, training or working full time and now awaits the governor's signature—its intent is to reduce risks like homelessness.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • A bill to remove 10 seats from the WWAMI partnership and build 30 new seats with a new partner passed the House by a 46—21 vote on March 14, 2025 to help address Idaho’s doctor shortage. Lawmakers said the changes may include working with the University of Utah or Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine as the State Board of Education reviews the plan for future medical training.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The City of Post Falls water division will shut off water from 10 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Friday for work on the Highway 41 Interchange project — customers living between Mullan Avenue and Seltice Way have been notified.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Idaho House passed a new travel transparency bill that makes lawmakers report trips paid for by others—this does not include travel paid with personal funds. The bill passed 47-22 and now moves to the Senate for review.  The Spokesman-Review

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kootenai Health and MultiCare plan to build a new hospital near Post Falls High School — the first phase will include 12 ER rooms, imaging, lab services and clinic offices to improve emergency care for residents between Coeur d’Alene, Spokane and Sandpoint. Construction will begin by the end of the year and the hospital is expected to open in two to three years while also creating local jobs.  KXLY
