CULTURE NEWS

  • Mary Lou Reed received the 2026 Women in American History Award at an event held Friday morning by the DAR Lt. George Farragut Chapter, honoring her decades of service protecting public lands & water. She accepted the award with her son as local students were also recognized.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Six NIC students won medals at the Idaho SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference held at the College of Western Idaho’s Micron Building in Nampa on March 5 and 6. The three gold medalists will travel to Atlanta on June 1 to compete in the national event.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • After a fire destroyed the building, staff and students at River Tech School of Performing Arts and Technology are planning a rebuild. They will meet soon to discuss improvements + restoration to ensure the school supports future classes.  KHQ

  • A measles exposure linked to an unvaccinated child from Kootenai County has led Providence Sacred Heart’s emergency department to implement screening protocols and continue contact tracing while health officials stress the importance of vaccination.  KXLY
  • An unvaccinated child from Kootenai County confirmed with measles prompted Providence Sacred Heart to alert emergency patients over the weekend. Health officials advise anyone exposed to call their provider promptly (the MMR vaccine remains effective if given within six days).  KXLY
