COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Climbing areas at Post Falls Community Forest and Q’emiln Park were mostly unharmed by the Parkway Fire despite losing much of their tree cover, and the Parks Department is now partnering with the Spokane Mountaineers to develop and maintain the 165 climbing routes. Community volunteers will plant about 500 saplings Saturday, April 12—restoring the lost foliage and helping improve climbing conditions. Coeur d'Alene Press
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Paradox Studios—led by filmmaker Caden Butera from Coeur d'Alene—won the Golden SpIFFy top award for Best Northwest Feature and the audience choice award at the Spokane International Film Festival for its film Recollection, which premiered March 7 at the Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center on Gonzaga’s campus. The 119-minute film, made with Inland Northwest talent, will be entered in upcoming international festivals as the team works on film distribution. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Students at Mountain View Alternative High School took part in a car-buying simulation Tuesday morning that let them practice negotiation tactics and budgeting skills by choosing among a Corvette, Hummer, or Ram Laramie—vice principal Mark Gorton said the exercise was designed to teach practical financial literacy with guidance from local car sales professionals. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Idaho Senate advanced House Bill 96 in a 20+11 vote on March 26 that stops local and state governments from displaying most flags except for the U.S. flag, government agency flags, state flags, military flags, POW/MIA flags, tribe flags, commemorative country flags and school flags; the bill now heads to the governor’s desk after passing the House in a 53+17 vote. - ➤ Idaho Gov. Brad Little and legislative leaders signed HB 304 on Wednesday at a young family's home, a bill that provided around $100 million for school facilities and property tax relief. The law sent $50 million to local schools and another $50 million to counties to lower taxes for homeowners — easing costs for families. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ A proposed Idaho bill would require parents to give written permission for their children to receive sex education in schools by replacing the current opt-out system. The bill passed the state Senate Tuesday night — it mandates schools to notify parents two weeks before lessons on topics like sexual behavior and violence, with one week allowed for opting in. KXLY
