  • Marie Widmyer celebrated 30 years of owning Marie's Boutique (located inside The Coeur d’Alene Resort) on Tuesday. She took over the family business in 1995 and has kept its legacy alive with the help of her daughters and husband as downtown retail continues to grow.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CRIME NEWS

  • The Coeur d'Alene Police Department reported that 16-year-old Annalise Vonberndt was located near Highway 95 and W. Dalton Ave after reportedly running away from Children's Village Monday afternoon — she is safe and will be returned to the facility.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • About 13 Lake City High School students will travel to Boise to attend the YMCA Youth in Government state conference April 23—24 where they will simulate the three branches of government and debate bills to learn civic processes.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Lakeland High School announced its fall 2024 honor roll, recognizing students from the Classes of 2025 through 2028 who earned either a 4.0 GPA or a GPA between 3.5 and 3.99—acknowledging over a hundred students for their high academic performance.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rathdrum police officers Scott Kennedy Jr. and Kenneth Short received Life Saving Awards for their quick actions in October 2022 when they responded to a man suffering a cardiac arrest in his driveway — using CPR and an AED — which revived him until EMS arrived.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Coeur d’Alene commissioners may review bonus and employee appreciation funds for the fiscal year 2026 budget season — Commissioner Bruce Mattare proposed a uniform method to keep spending fair. Sheriff Bob Norris and other officials discussed balancing competitive wages and employee recognition — they compared spending levels across departments.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Idaho lawmakers approved a bill that bans SNAP from covering candy and soda and sent it to Gov. Brad Little—who has five days (excluding Sundays) to act—while the Department of Health and Welfare will seek federal approval, and the measure will take effect on July 1 if approved. Critics argue that the bill’s broad definition of candy could impact items like granola and power bars.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Governor Brad Little signed a new law that could let courts give the death penalty to pedophiles charged with aggravated lewd conduct with children (12 and younger).  KHQ
