  • Tickets are on sale for the Make It Pink Gala on June 13 at the Hagadone Event Center, hosted by Made With Kindness Foundation to support female empowerment & education programs. Sponsorships, tables, and individual tickets are available with limited spots.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Josh Hurwit, a former U.S. attorney chosen by Biden, has joined the prosecution team for Bryan Kohberger in the college student homicide trial, where the state will seek the death penalty if Kohberger is convicted. He declined to comment on his new role & on Idaho’s firing squad law set to take effect next year.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • In Post Falls, a 47-year-old man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend pleaded not guilty Thursday morning after Ring doorbell footage showed him entering a home on Dorado Avenue around 5 a.m.—he faces charges of murder, burglary, and stalking and his trial is set for September.  KXLY
  • Attorneys for Bryan Kohberger asked Judge Steven Hippler to set a new legal precedent—treating autism as a comparable impairment to intellectual disability—to bar the death penalty if he is convicted for murdering four students in Moscow. They will present expert testimony at his hearing on April 9 while prosecutors contend that only intellectual disability qualifies for such an exemption.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Idaho College will host free book readings on April 10 and April 11 as part of Eastern Washington University’s annual Get Lit! Festival. Debra Magpie Earling will read at noon on April 10 (in the lobby of the DeArmond Building at NIC) and poet Li-Young Lee will join a conversation at 11 a.m. on April 11 (at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Community Room).  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction on the Spokane Street rehabilitation project in Post Falls will resume Monday, April 7. City officials said patching at the roundabout revealed extra repairs are needed and they are considering hiring contractors using unused grant funds with an estimated cost of less than $200,000 — officials noted the roundabout normally lasts about 15 to 20 years.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Lakes Highway District paused the permit process for Bayview docks after Kootenai County officials asked to handle maintenance entirely. Director Eric Shanley said talks will continue but the board said its legal and funding limits do not cover dock upkeep — a move that could change how safety and maintenance are managed.  Coeur d'Alene Press
