Good morning, Post Falls. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 9th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, almost 40 local businesses and about 25 Post Falls Chamber volunteers surprised educators by delivering gift baskets filled with snacks, supplies, and handwritten notes — educators in 30 schools expressed their gratitude for the unexpected gesture.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Today, Family Promise of North Idaho welcomed a visit from national CEO Cheryl Schuch at the bottom floor of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church as the group works to help families achieve sustainable independence. Executive Director Cindy Wood said the meeting—her first in 11 years with the national CEO—was used to build new partnerships, secure funding, and support a shift from sheltering families to preventing homelessness.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The rising cost of childcare has forced more families in Idaho to leave their jobs as numbers jumped from 5,000 in 2023 to 25,000 in 2024 while only 12% of working parents use daycare and 55% have no support — local experts and United Way North Idaho are working to offer childcare scholarships and long-term solutions.   KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Coeur d’Alene police and state lawmakers approved House Concurrent Resolution 17 to denounce recent political violence in North Idaho that involved pulling a fire alarm at a public meeting, an assault on a trustee by throwing water, the arson of a legislator’s business and threats against a legislator. The resolution states that political disagreements must be settled by debate & due process while investigations continue into these cases.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Since 2018, Idaho taxpayers have received a $205 credit for each child under 17, but the credit will end before Jan. 1 as lawmakers did not renew it during the legislative session. Analysts say many families may face higher taxes because the new tax cuts do not fully offset the loss of the credit — impacting those who did not benefit from broader tax relief.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Gov. Brad Little signed a new law that cuts state funds for vaccinations for people in the U.S. illegally and limits benefits like prenatal care—effective July 1. Health providers say the rule may deter patients from seeking care even as emergency services remain available.  KXLY
