- ➤ WWII veteran Robert Douglas Gwin celebrated his 101st birthday Friday at Lake City Center with family and friends. He said he has been very fortunate and once used his knack for Morse code as a high-speed radio operator in the Army Signal Corps. Coeur d'Alene Press
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At approximately 3:50 a.m. Friday, KCSO responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash on Hayden Lake Road when deputies found an unconscious male in a ditch near the intersection with Rhapsody Lane—preliminary evidence shows alcohol or drugs may have contributed. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Cody Albert, a longtime North Idahoan, runs Rock Bar Fence in Post Falls and installs vinyl, wood, and chain link fences with a focus on quality, having honed his skills since high school. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ John Kastelic, a retired curator at St. Thomas parish center, said each of the hundreds of crosses in the Cove of Crosses tells a unique story from gifts sent from orphanages, prisons, battlefields, and homes—this collection started nearly 20 years ago and was blessed in 2017. A new Jubilee Cross is en route from Rome this week as the display continues to grow along the stairwell. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Five candidates are running for one of three seats on the nonfunctional Kootenai Hospital District board in an election on May 20. The board has no assets or operations after Kootenai Health transferred everything to its nonprofit on January 1st, 2024 + it meets monthly only to comply with state law. Coeur d'Alene Press
