  • The Idaho Transportation Department announced it will hold Operation Clean Sweep on April 23rd and 24th along the U.S. 95 corridor from Granite Hill to Interstate 90 to remove trash as winter's impact becomes visible—volunteers aged 16 and older must register and check in between 7 and 9 a.m. at the Athol shed at 6303 E. Parks Road with cleanup concluding by 4 p.m.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • About 60 future teachers gathered at North Idaho College for the Future Educator Conference to share ideas on teaching and learning. Coeur d'Alene High School senior Andrew Nelson said he will work as a health teacher because he values the influence of his favorite instructors—organizers said a $4,000 NIC Foundation grant helped fund the event.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed House Bill 109 on April 15, directing the Department of Health & Welfare to ask USDA for a waiver so that SNAP will no longer cover candy and soda. The law, part of the Make America Healthy Again effort led by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., will take effect on July 1 and will require a new waiver request each year if not approved.  Coeur d'Alene Press
