  • The Spring Dash to benefit the United Way of North Idaho is set for Saturday at the McEuen Park pavilion—on paved out-and-back courses that pass by Lake Coeur d'Alene. Participants can choose a 5K, 10K, half marathon or Tot Trot, and the entry fee includes T-shirts, post-race food and group awards.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning at the Coeur d'Alene Resort, the Coeur d'Alene Tribe awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to over 200 high school seniors from 15 schools—Idaho college-bound students received an extra $1,000, out-of-state attendees an additional $500, and students pursuing education careers got an extra $2,000.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A $240,000 federal grant along with $12,000 from the city and Tubbs Hill Foundation will pay for fuel mitigation work on Tubbs Hill—project leaders said the clearing and thinning will remove brush, snags, and fallen trees from 58.5 acres of the 165-acre hill to create fire breaks and improve forest health for public safety. Bid opening is set for May 6 and work will begin mid-May or later with the project to be finished by November.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Brad Little signed the Make Forests Healthy Again Act executive order in Coeur d’Alene Tuesday— directing the Idaho Department of Lands to boost timber harvests and team up with the U.S. Forest Service to lower wildfire risk— and the order strengthens key local partnerships to protect communities and the environment.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • City councilors are weighing whether the Pleasant View Road Urban Renewal District should continue after revenues dropped 61% since 2021 when the developer failed to deliver promised projects—councilors met at a workshop to review study results and rising infrastructure costs estimated between $6.6 million and $11 million.   • The Idaho DMV said many residents can renew their driver's licenses and ID cards online before the REAL ID deadline on May 7—those who meet specific age and expiration rules can also receive a $5 discount while REAL ID upgrades still require an in-person visit.  Coeur d'Alene Press
