  • Rebecca Merrigan from Coeur d’Alene preserves her late mother's memory by turning her ashes into smooth stones that she carries and shares with family while placing them in outdoor spots her mother loved, including along the south fork of the Salmon River and in Tucson.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The America 250 Luncheon will be held May 14 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Resort, featuring 46th U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach (and offering community leaders a chance to discuss economic opportunity as the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary).  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Hayden Lake Watershed Association built log barriers (made from derelict docks) and planted trees on Saturday morning to slow sediment flow from Hayden Creek, which has led to erosion and a phosphorus-rich buildup in the lake's northern end.   • North Spokane Street in Post Falls will be closed to thru traffic from May 13-20 for paving work, with contractor-controlled access available for residents and the North Brookie Drive entrance remaining open; a second closure for roadway striping is scheduled from May 26-29.  KXLY
