COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 3rd Avenue Marketplace honored volunteers at its Garden Plaza luncheon for donating over 50 hours in 2024 and recognized Rick Casemore with the Maxine Nelson Award for his outstanding service—volunteers logged 15,799 hours last year and Casemore began helping after reading about the need for support.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Post Falls parks will partially close parking lots, trails and paths for seal coating and maintenance throughout May and June to improve safety and extend their lifespan. Closure dates include Syringa Park (May 15), Water Tower Park (June 2 to 3) and Crown Pointe Park (May 31 to June 1) while other locations have dates to be announced and officials advise park guests to plan ahead and follow posted signage.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kootenai Technical Education Campus — KTEC — faces funding uncertainty as local school levies will be voted on Tuesday, May 20. The program gets 51% of its funds from Coeur d'Alene, 26% from Post Falls, and 23% from Lakeland — if any levy fails, student access may drop while school leaders plan for alternative funding.  KHQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last week, the Post Falls City Council voted unanimously to start Phase II of an impact fee study that checks fees from new development to pay for public services and roads. Phase I cost about $115,890 and Phase II is expected to cost between $35,000 and $50,000+ the study will help officials plan fee changes as the city grows.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Governor Brad Little signed $400 million in tax cuts on May 13 and warned that lawmakers proposed much more than the $100 million he had recommended. He said that over his six-year tenure, taxes were reduced by $6 billion and public school funding rose from $1.7 billion to over $2.6 billion—sparking concerns about the state’s long-term fiscal outlook.  Coeur d'Alene Press
