  • At the Rathdrum Library, Community Library Trustees hinted at potential litigation over new library policies as part of reorganizing a network of 13 libraries sharing materials. Several library directors said the new rules—barring minor cardholders from reserving items from other libraries—may exceed Idaho law, and trustees planned a special meeting to address the concerns.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • In the University of Idaho murder case Judge Steven Hippler ordered attorneys to submit a list of everyone with access to key evidence after NBC Dateline aired details on Thursday+ he said a special prosecutor might be appointed if leaks continue.  KXLY

  • Christian Youth Theater North Idaho opens its production of Mary Poppins tonight at The Kroc on W. Golf Course Road with shows running through May 25. Ashley Cleveland stars as Mary Poppins and Gabe Deuling plays Burt — a key role in bringing magic and common sense to the Banks family.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • North Idaho College and the Art Spirit Gallery present the annual Student Spring Showcase featuring artwork by local college students in woodworking, photography, painting and mixed media.   • The Kroc Center awarded $19,000 in scholarships to support education; ten high school seniors received $1,000 each in leadership awards and two staff members received $4,500 each in continuing education scholarships at a May 8 reception — sponsored by ICCU.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality is testing over 30 beaches on Lake Coeur d'Alene and the Spokane River for lead and arsenic contamination from historic mining runoff. The study—funded by Governor Brad Little’s office and prompted by a 2022 report—will provide updated safety data for local families as summer nears.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rathdrum City Council denied rezoning a 127-acre parcel on Boekel and Meyer Roads in a 3—1 vote Wednesday night, rejecting Hayden Homes' request to build nearly 500 homes. Councilor Larry Sanders was the lone dissenting vote and called for postponing the decision until new information is reviewed at the June 11 meeting.  Coeur d'Alene Press
