Good morning, Post Falls. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 22nd of May.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Blair Williams from Art Spirit Gallery was named the 2025 Woman of Impact at the 16th annual North Idaho Alliance's Onward and Upward Women's Conference at the Best Western Plus Coeur d'Alene Inn. She has run the gallery since 2017 and serves on several art boards, and she said the honor inspires her to work hard to solve problems and link the community together.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Over the weekend, Scouting America Troop 222 removed 920 pounds of trash from the Hayden Creek area, including televisions, microwaves, thousands of shotgun shells plus furniture, spray foam, and paint cans. The all-girls troop organized the cleanup after frequent visitors left mess from shooting sessions and hopes the work will improve the local environment.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Post Falls City Council unanimously approved an extension of Prairie Trail on Tuesday—city engineer Rob Palus said the project will close two gaps in the 5.6-mile trail from Zorros to Highway 41. An undercrossing at Prairie Avenue and Meyer Road is set for next year while design work on a quarter-mile gap near the old railroad bed will lead to construction starting this summer or by fall.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Idaho Power proposed a plan to cut solar energy payments from up to 17 cents to 1-2 cents per kilowatt hour, and over 70 customers voiced their concerns during a public hearing on May 21—an 80% reduction in rates that may hurt homeowners with rooftop solar installations—while commissioners plan to vote on the proposal soon.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Drivers on state Highway 53 are facing delays today as Pleasant View Road is closed between the highway and Prairie Avenue due to construction of an interchange that will connect to Hauser Lake Road and remove three railroad crossings—BNSF Railway activity has caused heavy backups near the roundabout and ITD said the temporary signal will run in mid-June once the railway work is done. ITD advises drivers to use alternate routes until the project is complete.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • The Northern Idaho Crisis Center in Coeur d’Alene—operated by Panhandle Health District, Kootenai Health, and Heritage Health—offers free 24/7 mental health care to teens and adults from Post Falls to Lewiston and Boundary County.  KXLY
