  • Robert Perry is a local artist who returned home after years in Seattle and Alaska and spent the last 10 years studying at NIC while helping grow the Aspiring Artists Club.   • A report by the Idaho Office of Performance Evaluations found that children in residential treatment facilities received less abuse oversight than those in foster care, and it recommended reforms like unannounced visits and a formal investigation process. Governor Brad Little and Health and Welfare officials said improvements are underway—although more work is needed to enhance child safety.  The Spokesman-Review

  • Coeur d’Alene has pledged 3,000 dollars to help fund a new Special Assistant United States Attorney to fight drug trafficking in North Idaho starting July 1 & Governor Little’s office will contribute 75,000 dollars with the Oregon-Idaho High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area providing 50,000 dollars while local jurisdictions cover the remaining 15,000 dollars.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • Candace Godwin, a certified Idaho Master Gardener, says it is time to plan fall vegetable gardens by starting cool-season seeds indoors now because summer heat makes direct sowing less effective—this gives plants like lettuce, radishes, and kale enough time to grow before the first frost on Oct. 5.
