  • Community members gathered yesterday evening at Share Hope Memorial Garden for a healing butterfly release ceremony that helped grieving families find comfort as butterflies were set free—an event organized through local partnerships.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Better Together Animal Alliance and Post Falls Animal Shelter will host a free pet vaccination and microchip clinic this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1725 E. Polston Ave — complimentary pet food will be offered and pets must be leashed or secured in carriers.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Prosecutors announced they will seek the death penalty for Jason Rook, who is accused of shooting and killing his ex girlfriend's boyfriend Nathan Rodgers at his Post Falls home in February and faces charges of first-degree murder, burglary, stalking, and destroying evidence with his trial set to begin on September 22.  KXLY
  • City prosecutors charged Jim Valentine of Post Falls with battery after he sprayed water at protesters during the April 5 Hands Off rally in Coeur d’Alene—he pleaded not guilty in court.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Post Falls High School announced its spring honor roll, naming students from ninth through twelfth grades who earned GPAs from 3.0 to a perfect 4.0—organized into Honor Roll, High Honors, and Highest Honors groups.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Eight Kootenai County students joined 152 others in graduating from Inspire Connections Academy, a tuition-free online school in Boise on May 31. The 2025 graduates plan to attend college 34 percent, pursue vocational training 23 percent, or work 14 percent and received a total of $1,511,160 in scholarships + awards.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • Veteran Frank Conrad moved into a quiet medical foster home in Coeur d’Alene after leaving a noisy environment because his post-traumatic stress and anxiety made daily life hard. Melissa Hostetler opened the city’s first VA medical foster home earlier this year—helping veterans like Conrad with daily tasks and greater independence.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Sagle and Westside Fire Districts are asking community volunteers to help decide if new developments should pay extra fees to fund new fire engines and stations— the funds can only be used for new equipment and not for current staffing or replacing gear. Fire Chief Jeff Armstrong said the new advisory committee must include at least five local members from both development and non-development backgrounds, and community members can join by emailing him.  KXLY

  • Idaho State Veterans Home Post Falls earned the 2025 Pinnacle Customer Experience Award for ranking in the top 15% of 1,800 skilled nursing homes based on surveys from residents and families.
