🚨 Crime
On June 29th, an ambush on Canfield Mountain just above Fire Station 3 in Coeur d’Alene resulted in the deaths of Battalion Chief John Morrison, 52, and Frank Harwood, 42, and injured firefighter David Tysdal—while the 20-year-old suspect, Wess Roley, died at the scene—leaving local fire departments to grieve their loss.
Friends and family of Xana Kernodle are hosting Xanapalooza today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Vantage Point Brewing in Coeur d'Alene to celebrate her life and birthday—meanwhile, in Boise, Bryan Kohberger pleaded guilty to the 2022 stabbings that killed Xana and three other University of Idaho students as part of a deal to avoid the death penalty.

The EPA began a five-year review of the Bunker Hill Superfund Site—inviting community members in the Coeur d'Alene Basin to share their comments by email or phone to help ensure cleanup actions protect public health and the environment.
🏛️ Government
Candidates are applying for a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney position in North Idaho—an initiative formed over two years to help local agencies fight drug and fentanyl trafficking by shifting cases to federal court.
The office will be based in Shoshone County and is funded by contributions from the state, a regional drug task force, and local jurisdictions including Post Falls, with plans to prosecute about 30 cases a year.
