  • Hundreds of community members gathered on Thursday as police, fire, and emergency trucks moved along Coeur d'Alene streets to honor fallen firefighter John Morrison who was fatally shot on Canfield Mountain. The same route will be lined at 10 a.m. today for Battalion Chief Frank Harwood’s procession to show support & respect for local first responders.  The Spokesman-Review

  • Silver Valley man Ryan Gaddy (41) accepted a plea deal after making Facebook threats against state Rep. Jordan Redman and his family and will be sentenced on July 23.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Hundreds lined downtown streets in Coeur d'Alene to honor Fire Battalion Chief John Morrison—shot along with colleague Frank Hardwood in an ambush while fighting an intentionally set brush fire near Canfield Mountain in June—as they grieved his loss and celebrated his more than 20 years of service and dedication to his family.  KXLY

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Museum of North Idaho opened its new exhibit Adventure Awaits: Outdoor Recreation in North Idaho that shows historic photos and vintage gear to explain a century of outdoor adventure in the area. The exhibit runs until Sept. 27 and the museum is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at McEuen Park at the base of Tubbs Hill near City Hall.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dozens gathered on Thursday afternoon at the Kootenai County Justice Building on Garden Avenue for the grand opening of the expanded four-level, 60,000-square-foot courthouse that now includes three large courtrooms, judges' chambers, staff areas, security spaces, and holding cells. The building also houses the County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on the third floor and features a new courtroom for the Idaho Supreme Court — showing the county's commitment to timely justice.  Coeur d'Alene Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • A public health advisory was issued for Hayden Lake near Sportsman’s Park after water tests found cyanobacteria that can create toxins. Panhandle Health District with the Department of Health and Welfare and the Department of Environmental Quality warned that people should avoid using lake water for drinking because boiling or filtering does not remove the risk.  Coeur d'Alene Press
