Friday morning, Coeur d'Alene paused for a memorial procession honoring Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Frank Harwood as his body was taken to Hagadone Event Center for a respectful tribute—firefighters and community members recalled his leadership and lifelong service.

The Post Falls School District refinanced $11 million in bonds from its 2015 election—lowering its interest rate from 4.71% to 3.45%—and saved taxpayers $805,000 in repayment costs while expecting a small property tax reduction of about 90 cents per $100,000 of taxable value.

The refinancing process began in October 2024 and concluded on June 10 while keeping the bonds’ maturity on Aug. 15.

Construction on the I-90 bridge at Cataldo will cause short, intermittent delays for Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes users starting next week—flaggers will direct traffic and trail users to stop briefly when crews work overhead.

The Idaho Transportation Department is working with Parks and Recreation to keep the trail open and minimize interruption on Latour Creek Road.
