  • Hundreds of motorcycles began riding today from Coeur d'Alene to Spokane to honor two firefighters killed in an ambush on Canfield Mountain. The memorial ride—organized by the Knights of the Inferno and the Red Knights Motorcycle Clubs—raised over $5,000 to support the firefighters’ families.  KXLY
  • The Post Falls Festival parade honored fallen firefighters Morrison and Harwood and recognized injured firefighter Dave Tysdal, who remains hospitalized. A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 PM Monday with expected highs of 95 to 105 and lows of 65 to 75—residents should stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.  KHQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Fish and Game announced there are no size or bag limits for walleye fishing at Lake Pend Oreille this summer to offer anglers more flexibility. A heat advisory is in effect until 8 PM PDT Monday in Post Falls and nearby areas as temperatures are expected to reach 95 to 105 with overnight lows of 65 to 75—residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids and take precautions when outdoors.  KHQ
  • A hydrogeologist for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe explained that century-old wildfire ash from the 1910 Big Burn continues to flow into local waterways as clear-cut logging and erosion release extra phosphorus that can spur harmful algae growth. Ongoing research will guide restoration plans to protect water quality in Coeur d’Alene Lake—ensuring a safer resource for the community.  Coeur d'Alene Press
