  • Cancer and Community Charities said Monday it will give $115,000 in grants to local groups at the 3Cs Appreciation Lunch on August 15 at Best Western Plus Coeur d'Alene Inn. CRIME NEWS

  • According to the Idaho State Police uniform crime report, reported crime in Kootenai County dropped nearly 10% last year with 7,079 Group A offenses and a statewide decrease of 4.8% to 72,012 offenses—drug-related violations were the most frequently noted.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Idaho County Sheriff's deputies arrested 48-year-old Melaine Kleinsmith near Kooskia Saturday night after a K-9 unit alerted them to meth and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop—she now faces multiple charges.  KHQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Post Falls School District Superintendent Dena Naccarato announced she will retire in 2026, so the board created a temporary deputy superintendent role for Anna Wilson to help manage the transition to interim superintendent next year. Wilson’s salary increased to $140,000 from $138,380 as she prepares to lead during this change.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • Homeowners insurance costs are rising in the Inland Northwest due to more frequent wildfires and windstorms—residents are advised to compare policies and build savings for emergencies as insurers adjust coverage.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho State Police clarified a new passing law that began on July 1, which allows drivers to exceed the speed limit by 15 mph in clearly marked passing lanes when the vehicle being overtaken is below the set limit. The law does not apply when the speed limit is below 55 mph, when towing, when passing on the right, or when driving on an interstate.  KHQ
