The 'Hearts for Heroes' golf tournament and free concert will be held Monday at the Club at Prairie Falls to benefit the families of Chief John Morrison, Chief Frank Harwood and injured fire engineer David Tysdal who were impacted by a brush fire on Canfield Mountain on June 29.
The event will open with a silent auction at 9 a.m., followed by a sold-out golf tournament at 10 a.m.—with a free full concert donated by Tamarack Ridge Band—to support first responders while suggested donations are accepted.
After United Way of Spokane County closed after more than 100 years, United Way of North Idaho is moving forward and expanding services for families across North Idaho.
Executive Director Rachel Peterson said the organization is using remaining COVID-19 funds to support child care scholarships, summer read-ups and a new volunteer initiative — Volunteer North Idaho.

Firefighter Dave Tysdal, injured by a gunshot during a wildfire response ambush on Canfield Mountain that killed Battalion Chiefs Frank Harwood and John Morrison, was released Tuesday morning from Kootenai Health to start rehab in Colorado.
🎓 Education
Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy announced its spring 2025 honor rolls listing students from high and middle schools who earned GPAs between 3.0 and 4.0.
The school recognized academic excellence—showing hard work—with separate groups for each GPA range.
The Idaho Community Foundation announced Monday that it awarded $82,000 in education-focused grants to nonprofits and school districts in North Idaho — with Growing the STEM serving over 800 students and United Way of North Idaho providing monthly childcare scholarships for A.L.I.C.E. families. The grants support programs from preschool through high school and come as the foundation celebrated surpassing $200 million in grants since 1988.

On July 10, the Idaho Public Safety Communications Commission approved a $15 million grant to upgrade the outdated analog 911 system to Next Generation 911 — a secure digital network that processes real-time mobile location data, texts, photos, videos, and live call transcription.
The commission also approved a $1.33 million grant for GIS projects to support counties without GIS staff in an 18 month rollout across 42 counties.
