Good morning, Post Falls. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 17th of July.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eats on Spokane Street—a new food truck court—opened in downtown Post Falls at Spokane Street and 2nd Avenue with four upscale food trucks. The venue is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will expand to seven trucks soon.  KXLY
  • Coeur d’Alene Public Library officials announced that the regional library consortium will dissolve in September, ending over 40 years of shared collections between libraries in North Idaho and Eastern Washington. After September 30, patrons in Post Falls will no longer be able to borrow books from libraries outside their taxing district — a change that follows months of unsuccessful attempts to reorganize the partnership.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Judge Hippler will consider arguments to lift the non-dissemination order in the Kohberger case at 10:30 a.m. today in Boise—media groups argue that sealing over 400 court documents conflicts with open court rules—while prosecutors have withdrawn their previous request to keep the order in place.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two local high school seniors, Lola Barron and Annika Hain, were chosen to go to Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. from Saturday until July 26 so they can learn how the government works (Lola plans to become a doctor and Annika wants to serve as a judge).  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Post Falls will see repairs and repaving at the roundabout on Spokane Street and Poleline Avenue after the City Council approved the project on Tuesday; the work is budgeted at up to $183,788 and will begin by Sept. 2 with the roundabout closed for about two weeks—pedestrian ramps will be replaced to meet ADA requirements.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Idaho Fish and Game’s first K9 officer, Hudson—a yellow lab— is retiring after nearly ten years with his handler Matt Haag, who said they completed over 800 deployments to track suspects and recover evidence + his partnership with Hudson has been the highlight of his career. The pair helped in school demonstrations and community events before Hudson’s aggressive cancer diagnosis led to this decision.  KXLY
  • Idaho Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo and Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt introduced the Graham Hoffman Act that would make it a federal crime to attack a first responder. The bill follows a deadly ambush last month on Canfield Mountain that killed two fire chiefs and injured a firefighter — lawmakers say the measure will help protect those who serve our community.  KXLY
