- ➤ Free backpacks will be given away at 1 p.m. Sunday at Verizon Wireless stores in Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls during the 13th annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway, and Round Room LLC will also gift a school a bus filled with nearly $40,000 in supplies. Leftover backpacks will be donated to local schools — with more than 140,000 backpacks distributed at 1,200 locations — as part of a nationwide campaign. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ A Rathdrum man, Blake J. Weatherly, 31, pleaded guilty after he pointed a gun and called a man racist slurs during a family dispute on March 8; he was sentenced to four days in jail with one day credit and will complete two shifts with the Sheriff’s Community Labor Program, attend an anger management class, and serve one year on probation.
