EDUCATION NEWS

  • CVSD schools are adding extra safety measures—officials said the new steps will begin soon to protect students, teachers, and staff.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers met in Hayden when the new Child Custody and Domestic Relations Task Force gathered local input on how Idaho's family laws work. Lawmakers said courts make the final decisions—while some advocates worry that current rules make it hard for children to get help and for cases of abuse to be properly handled.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department promoted Captain Tom Hiltenbrand to battalion chief — filling the role after the passing of Battalion Chief Morrison. He is known for his professionalism and dedication — qualities that will honor Morrison’s legacy in his new role.  KHQ
  • Coeur d'Alene — Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Chief Chris Way resigned after five years of service following a special meeting held Thursday afternoon. He will begin a new EMS Chief role in South Carolina on August 6 and Deputy Chief Pete Holley will serve as interim chief.  KHQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • A 17-year-old hockey player from Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy defied doctors’ predictions when a collision in Canada left him paralyzed from the neck, and he is now regaining movement in both his arms and legs while undergoing daily therapy at Shepherd Center in Atlanta—his family hopes he will return home by October.  KXLY
  • Idaho State Police visited local athletes (Sandpoint, Hayden, and Post Falls) competing in the 2025 Special Olympics and surprised them with news that they will represent Idaho in next year's games in Minneapolis (each athlete received a gift to celebrate their selection).  KHQ
