- ➤ Village of Hope CDA received a $10,000 grant — randomly chosen from over 2,200 entries during Idaho Community Foundation’s '$200M Moment' campaign — to expand its programs to help vulnerable children and prevent more foster care placements. They will host a community celebration from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 at 1318 W. Hanley Ave. Coeur d'Alene Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ For the second year, Post Falls School District led the state in early literacy as more than 84% of its 1,729 K-3 students met or exceeded grade-level benchmarks (well above the statewide average of about 71%), based on the 2024-25 Idaho Reading Indicator. District officials credited targeted teacher training and curriculum adjustments from switching to a four-day school week for the success. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Pat Riley, the longtime chief of Northern Lakes Fire District, retired after more than 30 years of service and began his first Monday as a civilian—he had responded on June 29 to a shooting on Canfield Mountain that killed two firefighters and left a third paralyzed while saying his decision was planned long in advance, with Kevin Croffoot named interim chief. - ➤ A new Idaho legislative task force—formed after complaints from parents and advocates—is studying child custody laws and met on July 7 and July 31 in Hayden to hear detailed testimony from law enforcement, judges, and stakeholders.
