  • Sisters Kristina Wayne and Jennifer Bonner will close My Favorite Things, a 19-year-old antique and vendor mall at 503 E. Seltice Way, on September 27 — the lease was not renewed as the property owners plan to revamp the space. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lakeland School District cut eight bus routes to address a $500,000 transportation shortfall, which has forced families to seek new ways to get their children to school. The cuts affect Spirit Lake schools and raise safety concerns during winter months—administrators will monitor the routes and notify parents if further adjustments are made.  KXLY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Coeur d'Alene saw heavy smoke on Wednesday from fires burning west of the Cascade Mountains, according to the National Weather Service in Spokane. Air quality fell into orange for sensitive groups and outdoor burning was banned until conditions improved.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Wildfire smoke from the Bear Gulch fire darkened Spokane on Wednesday morning—smoke from the Mount Underwood Fire now drifts over Post Falls. Cooler temperatures and rain due Friday are expected to clear the haze.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 8, Governor Brad Little authorized 14 National Guard members to assist ICE following a directive from the U.S. Secretary of Defense. Local advocates warned the move increased fear among immigrants and could lead to further National Guard support—raising concerns for the community.  KXLY

  • A measles case has been confirmed in Kootenai County and health officials are tracking contacts — they advise residents to check immunizations and seek care if symptoms develop.  KXLY
