  • Lake City Center thanked community partners Seright’s Ace Hardware—who donated a Weber grill for Bingo fundraisers—and 3Cs Cancer and Community Charities—who provided a grant to help replace vital Meals on Wheels equipment for seniors.   • Sisters Keira, 15, and Kimber, 13, won major 4-H awards at the North Idaho State Fair on Saturday with their pigs earning top titles and sale prices of $10.50 and $7 per pound respectively—this win marks their first championship after years of hard work in youth livestock showing.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Survivors will share their testimonies during the Journey of Forgiveness event at 6 p.m. Sept. 6 at Altar Church in Coeur d'Alene—featuring Post Falls’ Cara Kernodle, Sara Weaver and pastor Tim Remington, as they explain how forgiveness aids healing and free tickets are available with RSVP.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Rotary members led a donation drive that filled three pickup truck loads with firefighter supplies for departments fighting the Sunset and Lightning Creek fires in southern Bonner County. CRIME NEWS

  • Coeur d’Alene resident Joel P. Rose, 62, was sentenced today to five years in prison—suspended with 30 days in jail—after he unlawfully killed a well-known trophy bull elk during the archery-only season near Wolf Lodge, and he will also pay a $30,000 fine and $5,000 restitution while his hunting privileges are permanently revoked.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters said containment of the over 3,200-acre Sunset Fire—burning northeast of Athol—increased by Saturday night as crews drew water from Lake Pend Oreille to battle the blaze. Evacuations stayed in effect and area closures remained for safety.  KXLY
  • The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality issued an air quality advisory for counties including Post Falls as high temperatures of 90 to 99°F below 3500 feet and 80 to 89°F for higher areas continue until 9 PM PDT Wednesday. Residents are urged to drink fluids and stay in cool areas—steps aimed at preventing heat-related illnesses.  KHQ
  • Firefighters battled the 3,208-acre Sunset Fire in Bonner County with 678 personnel and aerial support as they secured firelines and burned fuel to contain the blaze, which was 11% contained on Saturday. Area closures remain in effect along the western Lake Pend Oreille shoreline to protect safety while crews continue their work.  Coeur d'Alene Press
