  • Gregg Johnson has filed a claim for $2.5 million against Kootenai County and Sheriff Bob Norris—he says his rights were violated when he was removed and his hands zip-tied at a town hall in Coeur d’Alene after speaking out in defense of another attendee.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Richard J. Rehl, 60, pleaded guilty to his seventh DUI after being pulled over in April and received a suspended two-year jail sentence along with two years of probation and a one-year license suspension — his breath tests showed levels nearly triple the legal limit.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, thousands of students returned to school across North Idaho as teachers and staff welcomed them with traditional gestures—handing out apples and fist bumps.   • City Council members approved a $165 million budget on Tuesday that carries over funds from past projects—this plan includes a $54 million general fund and a 3% property tax increase for the fiscal year from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • 18-year-old Rhett Owens from Post Falls, who was born with cerebral palsy, has become a competitive triathlete with help from Shriners Children’s care in Spokane—he trains with Parasport Spokane and will compete in the 2028 Paralympic Games.  KXLY
  • A Johns Hopkins Medicine study shows that e-cigarettes increase the risk of lung disease and high blood pressure. Local doctors say young patients get very sick from vaping—urging parents to talk with their kids and for stricter limits on e-cigarette sales.  KXLY
