ECONOMY NEWS

  • Washington drivers are paying up to $4.66 per gallon—much higher than Idaho's $3.51 average, prompting some to cross into Idaho for cheaper gas. Relief is expected starting Tuesday as stations switch to a cheaper winter gasoline blend—expected to lower prices below $4 in Washington.  KXLY
  • Local 302 union workers ended their labor strike that began on Aug. 12, causing delays and traffic issues—some workers have already returned while others will resume work today. The Associated General Contractors said the new agreement matches recent deals with other trades, though the Washington State Department of Transportation noted project restarts will occur on a case-by-case basis.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A North Idaho College instructor is on administrative leave for allegedly making insensitive remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk's killing after threatening messages were received regarding the post. Administrators increased campus security—ensuring student, faculty, and staff safety while the college investigates the matter.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congressman Fulcher will host a telephone town hall today at 5 p.m.—residents from Idaho’s First Congressional District can ask questions and give input as the event follows a July session that reached nearly 10,000 Idahoans.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Idaho Transportation Department said Monday that the operator strike ended and union workers returned to work under a tentative agreement. The department is working with contractors to reset project priorities—such as the Highway 53 and Pleasant View interchange—while delays from the strike may affect schedules.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Local officials extended the downtown building height limit ordinance to regulate new construction — they said the change aims to keep the skyline consistent while planning updates are reviewed.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Panhandle Health District’s LHIP held its summer Under the Sea free blood lead screening within the Bunker Hill Superfund Site to check outdoor recreation for lead exposure—over 350 people were tested and children aged 6 months to 6 years received a $50 incentive after testing.  Coeur d'Alene Press
