COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new billboard honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk is on display along US-95 near Hayden Avenue today, featuring his message 'God, family, country. In that order' and the dates 1993—2025 with an American flag. Hayden resident Turner Sutton paid $1,800 to run the tribute after a GoFundMe raised over $3,000 and plans to extend it to more billboards in honor of Kirk, who was shot and killed last week while speaking in Utah.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Local transit officials announced a new double decker bus service that will offer residents an additional travel option. The service will begin soon—officials are finalizing its schedule and routes for Post Falls.  KXLY
  • More than 400 people attended Timberlake High School's first homecoming parade yesterday along 10th Street in Spirit Lake—local students, community groups, and volunteers celebrated by marching and handing out candy. Community organizers say the event has sparked interest for more activities that bring residents together.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • Barre owner Jenny Wiglesworth is opening her new studio, Barre Length—Strength, in Hayden after closing her previous studio during COVID. The grand opening is today at 9040 Hess St. from noon to 4 p.m. and the studio will offer daily classes for women to feel safe.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Local crafter Rachel Lunde—known as a crafting mama who loves books—started her business Briar Layne to offer fun and affordable accessories and she will showcase her work at the Spokane Renaissance Faire on Oct. 3–5.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • At 5 years old, Sky Lynn signed her name to a replica of the Declaration of Independence during an America250 event at Post Falls American Legion Post 143 where she met Revolutionary War figures. The replica and Spuddy Buddy Ambassadors will appear today at the Idaho State Veterans Home for the Fall Harvest Festival, and State Treasurer Julie Ellsworth said each ambassador takes (10 hours) to craft.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Post Falls High 2022 salutatorian, Zachary Clark, has received a $4,000 Michael L. Condon Civil Engineering Scholarship from the Deep Foundations Institute’s Educational Trust Scholarship Program. He is a civil engineering senior at Montana Technological University who will graduate in May—one of 43 students chosen nationwide and one of three to earn the Condon award.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Students at Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy observed the Idaho Supreme Court hearing at Kootenai County’s expanded Justice Building today—watching oral arguments in the Beardslee v. Ratliff Family case and asking questions after the session to learn how state laws are applied.  Coeur d'Alene Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Panhandle Health District has issued a public health advisory for Hauser Lake after tests detected a toxic algal bloom that may cause rashes, diarrhea, and serious health issues. They warned that the bacteria cannot be removed by boiling or filtering and advised people to wash with fresh water if they make contact.  KXLY
