North Idaho STEM Charter Academy in Rathdrum was named the top elementary and middle school in Idaho by U.S. News with 91.9% math and 95.6% English proficiency—results of its strict no-phone policy and hard-working culture established since fall 2012.

This summer, the Spokane River ran low because water pumped from the Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer and lower flows at Post Falls Dam cut its supply—experts say less snow and warmer weather made the drop worse.
