  • An 18-year-old in Coeur d’Alene launched her dog grooming business after high school—she began by caring for her dog Sherman and learned skills from a groomer in Lewiston to create a calm space for pets.  KHQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Idaho College confirmed on September 22 that biology assistant professor Matthew Singer is no longer employed after he posted a comment on Facebook criticizing Charlie Kirk’s stance on gun control following the conservative commentator’s death — details of the board meeting and investigation remain undisclosed.  KHQ

FINANCE NEWS

  • Financial experts advise local homebuyers and savers to understand products like PMI—an extra fee for first-time buyers—and CDs that offer better rates as well as IRAs with restrictions for retirement planning. They recommend checking local credit unions for alternative mortgage programs and planning carefully to avoid unexpected costs.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City crews will begin stormwater work on Ash soon—reducing the road to one lane while improvements are made. Drivers should follow posted detours and plan for delays during the project.  KXLY
  • Election Day is six weeks away on Nov. 4 and local groups have arranged candidate forums to help voters learn about candidates for city offices in Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls. The events—one at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., one paid forum on Oct. 2 at a Best Western Inn, and one free forum on Oct. 5 moderated by Pat Costello—will let residents ask questions and learn more before the election.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department donated its first ladder truck to North Idaho College’s Firefighter 1 Academy to help train more firefighters. Fire Chief Tom Greif said the truck is retired but still ready for use — a resource for the training program.  KHQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Black Lake has a public health advisory after tribal biologists and state health officials detected harmful algal blooms from cyanobacteria — residents should avoid contact with the water as exposure can cause symptoms like rashes and vomiting.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Bras on Dudes will take place on October 3—at the Jacklin Building at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds—to raise funds for local patients battling cancer through the Cancer Care Northwest Foundation.
