  • Rocket, the therapy dog from the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, earned a Kindness 9-1-1 Citation for easing anxiety during crisis debriefs and mental health talks, and his handler Chaplain John McSwain said his presence brings comfort to first responders and community members—helping them feel less alone in tough times.  KHQ
  • Post Falls will host a Fall Festival at Eats on Spokane Street on October 10 from noon to 9 p.m.—attendees can explore local vendors, sip wine, enjoy seasonal treats and listen to live music from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  KXLY

CRIME NEWS

  • Families of homicide victims are receiving support from community groups & local agencies as they come together to cope with their loss and push for safer neighborhoods.  KXLY

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Holy Trinity Greek Festival is scheduled for this weekend and will feature live music—dancing, food, and cultural exhibits to celebrate Greek heritage. Organizers invite locals to join the celebration and share in the community's cultural traditions.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lakeland High School in Rathdrum received a $25,000 prize through T-Mobile’s Fright Night 5G Lights program for renovating its football facilities with planned repairs to the stadium, improved accessibility and updated concession stands. The school will seek community votes on the Friday Night 5G Lights website until October 24 to win an extra $1 million prize.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kootenai County officials need funds to buy a helicopter for emergency services - they plan to use it to enhance response times across the county. Funding efforts will continue until appropriate financing is secured.  KXLY
  • Local firefighters began fire prevention work today in Post Falls to protect homes and public spaces. They will clear dry brush and inspect high-risk areas to help reduce fire risks+  KXLY
