The North Idaho Kindness Project has called for artists to submit postcard designs for the 2026 Kindness Cards Project set for January and February—submissions for kids 13 and under and adults 14 and older must be made by Nov.

🎭 Culture
Lake City Playhouse stages The Sound of Music with heartfelt performances that offer a fresh take on a classic story of family and courage.
The production plays today at 7:30 p.m.—and continues on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. through Oct. 12 with tickets priced at $30.75 for adults.
North Idaho author Courtney Davis and 5 Prince Publishing will release her new paranormal romance, Having the Vampire's Baby, on Tuesday.
She will also sign copies at It's a Love Story (8927 N. Hess St., Hayden) on November 1 and 2.
The Music Conservatory of Coeur d'Alene announced its soloists for Handel’s Messiah, with conductor Yevgeniy Grechko leading soprano Chloe Sundet, alto Elizabeth Goodwin-Lauer, tenor Joel Cummings and bass Noah Lauer.
The concert is set for 7 p.m. on Nov. 16th at the Schuler Performing Arts Center stage at North Idaho College—tickets cost $30 for the orchestra, $25 for the lower balcony and $20 for the upper balcony.

Students at Pinehurst Elementary enjoyed playing on a new playground that replaced cracked asphalt and aging woodchips with synthetic turf and updated play equipment.
Construction crews removed contaminated soil, installed proper drainage, and upgraded the area—funded by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality and supported by the Pinehurst PTA.

A record 121 Idaho mayors began the annual Mayor’s Walking Challenge two days ago, including Post Falls mayor Ron Jacobson, to boost physical activity and gain grant funds—participants earning $500 or $1,000 by meeting daily step goals.
The initiative is sponsored by the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health and runs throughout October.
After Congress failed to approve a funding bill, the federal government partially shut down, and many Idaho federal workers are working without pay while mail and Social Security checks continue—essential services like TSA and airport security remain active.
Key programs such as Medicaid, SNAP, and WIC are still operating for now, though some delays may occur.
The Idaho Transportation Department and Idaho State Police are offering free winter driving safety classes in North Idaho as snow season nears.
The first session runs from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the ISP District Office in Coeur d’Alene — the course covers vehicle preparation and crash response.

Charity Reimagined will host The Wellness Blueprint training Oct.
28 at North Idaho College—open to the public and aimed at equipping community members, especially those serving vulnerable populations, with tools to build wellness across eight areas. Local experts will present on holistic and financial wellness and raffles tied to each wellness domain will offer useful resources.

Former Idaho basketball coach Don Monson died peacefully Wednesday night at 92, his family confirmed—he led the Vandals to their only NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance and earned the 1981-82 Kodak Division I National Coach of the Year award.
His remarkable career helped shape Idaho basketball.
