Today, the super harvest moon lights the sky at 8:47 p.m. and later this month the moon will meet the Pleiades on October 9, appear half-lit on October 13 and pass near Regulus on October 16.
On October 21 the Orionid meteor shower will peak with up to 15 meteors per hour—while a brightening comet will be visible by binoculars and move toward the southwestern sky by Halloween before the first quarter moon appears on October 29.

Taxpayers with an automatic extension must file their income tax returns and pay in full by October 15, the Idaho State Tax Commission said.
The commission warned that any tax balance not paid by April 15 carries a 6% interest charge—prompt filing is needed to avoid extra costs.
🏛️ Government
Residents in North Idaho are worried that the Gozzer Ranch Homeowners Association and developers want to privatize a nearly two‑mile section of Gozzer Road that locals use as a shortcut and for emergency services—officials will hold a public hearing on Nov.
17 and are preparing a report after consulting with emergency service providers.
🏈 Sports
Lakeland High School’s undefeated football team is a finalist in T-Mobile’s Friday Night Lights campaign and won a $25,000 prize — the team will compete for a $1 million grant to upgrade its field, weight room and fund a championship trip.
Community members are urged to vote once daily until Oct. 26.
