- ➤ Better Together Animal Alliance in Ponderay is helping nearly 250 cats across four locations by providing food, vaccines and spay/neuter services to control overpopulation — donations of adult cat food and monetary contributions for veterinary care are urgently needed to support long-term care plans. - ➤ Corilynne Smith founded Bestowing the Basics to help underserved families in North Idaho and bring the Aloha spirit to the community. After nearly four years working from her home and small storage units, her nonprofit moved to a new commercial space at 6101 E. Highway 54, Unit B in Athol — and it now offers free community meals while planning a Winter Blessings program for the holidays. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Pilgrim's Market owner Joe Hamilton said the store has seen about 1,500 daily customers since Trader Joe’s opened across the street almost a year ago — shoppers cross Fourth Street to buy its fresh and organic products. Hamilton plans to add an outdoor event space and expand its bulk foods program to help the 25-year-old store grow further. Coeur d'Alene Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A state report from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare shows that Walmart employed 444 Medicaid expansion enrollees—the highest count among major companies including Sam’s Club, McDonald’s and Amazon. Lawmakers voiced concerns that some employers may use part-time staffing to dodge full health benefit costs and shift expenses to the state, based on November 2024 data. Coeur d'Alene Press
