- ➤ Shriners will host its annual October event in Post Falls+ it is expected to offer community activities and fundraising initiatives this month. KXLY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Middle and high school students in North Idaho built two airplanes that received FAA certification on October 4 in Sandpoint — the Van’s RV12 and Zenith 750 STOL, with former student Eric Gray set to test them during FAA-approved flight tests. The North Idaho High School Aerospace Program has guided nearly 60 graduates into aviation careers and will soon start building a Jabiru J430 composite aircraft with donations and grants. KXLY
- ➤ Idaho Transportation Department is asking students in grades 6-12 to submit creative names for its snowplows as part of its second annual contest. ITD employees will choose two winning names from each region and the winners will get a plow visit — an event that also includes a winter safety presentation. KXLY
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Coeur d'Alene Parks and fire departments plan a controlled burn of piled hazardous vegetation on Tubbs Hill early November after crews removed dead trees and pruned overgrown areas this summer. Officials say the burn may be delayed to later November or December if weather conditions are not right—residents seeing smoke during the burn should not call emergency services unless it seems unrelated.
