  • The record-breaking Rotary Rose Sale sold 1,548 dozen roses and raised over $55,000, setting a new club record that funds local grants and scholarships. Coeur d'Alene Rotary President John Young led the effort by selling 93 dozen roses and donating 43 dozen to nonprofits — a milestone that showed strong team spirit.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Miranda Elam and her family have turned her childhood home on Brandons Road in Silver Valley into Patti’s Purgatory— a haunted house attraction open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday that honors her late mother; the 10-room experience uses sensory effects and special sounds and has drawn more than 100 visitors each night.  KXLY
  • Jerry Staub, a Kootenai County man, wrote a book of poetry—Vietnam As They Knew It—that uses simple words to share the feelings of veterans from the Vietnam War. He gathered their stories to show what they went through and to honor their service.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Laura Dabney, a wife, mother, grandmother and genealogist, has served as research coordinator for the Kootenai County Genealogical Society since 2019 after starting her family research in 2011 — she will join local historians for a presentation on Nov 6 at the Hayden Library.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The local school district lost about $4.8 million last year due to high chronic absenteeism—18.6% of students missed enough days to reduce funding compared to the 15% state average. Under district policy, students who attend at least 2.5 but less than 4 hours receive half-day funding while those who attend 4 or more hours secure full-day funding.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Nearly 950 volunteers worked 16,614 hours to clear more than 400 miles of trails, repair treads, build 936 water bars, and remove over 5,600 logs across five wilderness areas. The Idaho Trails Association plans to expand its Youth Program and Women in the Wild program next season—efforts that boost local trail protection and community engagement—showing a strong commitment to preserving our public lands.  Coeur d'Alene Press
