COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Silverwood Theme Park raised $38,120 during Community Appreciation Weekends in September by adding $4 per general admission and $1 per youth and senior ticket. Checks were distributed on October 23 to several food banks across the Inland Northwest — including the 3rd Avenue Marketplace in Post Falls — to help cover infrastructure and growth needs.  KXLY
  • Local scientist Brian H. Smith has launched Science Talk—a free monthly group at the Innovation Den in downtown Coeur d’Alene—where people can ask science questions and learn simple facts. The series begins today and will cover topics from brain work to insect behavior.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Scout Caden Collins with Troop 3213 in Post Falls finished his Eagle project for the Post Falls Veterans Home today by creating a U.S. Armed Forces monument to honor veterans and updating the space with irrigation and landscaping.   • Earlier Monday, 3rd Avenue Marketplace in Post Falls served nearly 160 families (usually about 120) as growing SNAP benefit concerns amid the government shutdown pushed more people to seek help. CRIME NEWS

  • Idaho Fish and Game is asking the public to help solve two wildlife crimes near Osburn — one incident involved an elk shot on October 19 on Nuchols Gulch Road and the other a mule deer doe illegally killed during closed season up Polaris Peak Road, with anyone having tips urged to call the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • School officials reported rising behavioral health needs among students and will review support programs to address the issue. The district plans to assess current services and seek additional funding – actions that may help improve student well-being.  KXLY

  • Anglers on Lake Pend Oreille can join Idaho Fish and Game’s Angler Science Program to log trophy rainbow trout data—helping biologists manage the fishery—and win prizes such as custom lures and high-quality gear.
