  • Local veterans have struggled to get needed help amid delays in available services—officials and local groups are reviewing plans to improve support.  KXLY
  • Marvin Urwiller and Douglas Champagne were honored for their military service at a Veterans Day quilt presentation at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Post Falls on Tuesday—tearing up as heartfelt speeches and personal moments underscored the community's respect for local veterans.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced plans to build a new temple at the corner of Hanley Avenue and Coeur Terre Boulevard in Coeur d’Alene. The single-story structure will cover 29,630 square feet on a 10.91-acre site—tours will be offered at a public open house when construction is complete.  KHQ
  • Coeur d'Alene resident Mica Riendeau, known as Silver Belle, will begin her seventh season on the Journey to the North Pole Cruises on Lake Coeur d'Alene Saturday + she is reviving a long-held family tradition of spreading Christmas cheer. Her children's book, Silver Belle and the Christmas Cookie Caper, which offers interactive elements for elementary kids, was published Oct 4 + it will soon be available at the Well-Read Moose.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Coeur d'Alene Arts & Culture Alliance was awarded a Thriving Communities Grant to launch the Living Lake Project that will use art to help protect the lake and watershed.   • Local agencies and government groups are helping veterans transition to civilian careers with job training and career counseling services that connect them to stable employment—officials said the program will expand soon.  KXLY

  • A family is pleading for public donations—seeking $400,000 to fund Ryan Becker's experimental treatment for a rare, painful disease—after his clinical trial funding ended and his last dose was given.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Friday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital for a new 17-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit—a joint project of Ernest Health and Kootenai Health.
