St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho received a $5K donation from First Interstate Bank (a longtime supporter) to help run its winter warming center in Post Falls that offers emergency shelter when temperatures drop to 33 degrees.

The center is set to be open for about 100 nights and provide nearly 1,000 bed nights (costing around $100K) this season.

The Hensley family from Post Falls spent Tuesday sledding at Cherry Hill Park after several inches of snow fell Monday, with children riding a snow tube and their father tossing snowballs, and local hardware stores saw high demand for shovels and snow blowers — a sign residents are preparing for more winter weather.

Post Falls will hold Winterfest on Friday with a new 32-foot artificial tree replacing the old one outside City Hall as the winter market opens at 4 p.m. with attractions including Santa’s appearance, craft stations, museum tours, and a food donation drive for Kootenai County Fire and Rescue—inviting families to join a free, festive celebration.

Local photographers are invited to join the Bald Eagle Photo Contest this December at Lake Coeur d’Alene, where entries capturing eagles snatching kokanee can win a free night at The Coeur d’Alene Resort, a two-hour boat rental, and a $75 gift certificate—each photographer is limited to one submission.
