  • During the annual Wreaths Across America event Saturday, about 100 community members placed wreaths at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens and Pinegrove Cemetery to honor veterans — with Helen Nelson wearing Marine Corps red to remember her fallen brother.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • 80-year-old Gladys, a regular at the Kroc Center, got help paying off debts and moving from her car into Orchard Ridge Assisted Living after Press Christmas for All provided a two-week motel stay. Her story is part of a campaign that aids Kootenai County neighbors during harsh winters.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Steve Casey, a long-time educator noted for his compassion and leadership, died Wednesday at 78 after battling dementia. He served as teacher, administrator, and mentor in our local schools, leaving a lasting legacy that inspires students and staff (a reminder to celebrate every life).  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The EPA has proposed changes to the Clean Water Act to limit federal protection to wetlands with a continuous surface connection to larger waters – a revision that could affect North Idaho wetlands, and public comments on the proposal are accepted until Jan. 5.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Northern Lakes Fire District held a live structure burn near Rimrock Road and Hudlow Road on Saturday as part of a controlled training exercise to boost emergency response capabilities (according to deputy fire marshal Chris Larson).  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Local officials announced repairs on East Spring Creek Road to address pavement deterioration and improve local traffic, with work scheduled to begin soon.  KXLY

  • Flu season is intensifying as a new variant has led to more cases around town + local health officials recommend that residents monitor symptoms and take preventive measures.  KXLY
