GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kootenai County commissioners began reviewing the FY2026 budget that calls for about $145 million in expenditures. They will meet six times through July 23, with a preliminary balanced budget on July 31, a public hearing on Aug. 27, and final adoption on Aug. 29 (a 3% property tax increase could bring a surplus of $589,000 while no increase would require $1.2 million in cuts).  Coeur d'Alene Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Idaho health officials said a new law will shift Medicaid oversight to private companies by 2029 after years of preparation— the department plans to apply for federal approval for Medicaid work requirements for able-bodied adults by July 2026.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Camp host Cheryl Dimmick from Riverside State Park advised families to test smoke alarms, check fire extinguishers, and inspect gas and propane systems to prevent accidents while camping and boating this summer.
