COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Multiple centers including Lake City Center, Hayden, Post Falls, Rathdrum, and Spirit Lake are offering senior meals with rotating menus and require reservations by calling the centers by set deadlines—Post Falls Senior Center requires a call the day prior between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. or by 10 a.m. on the day—and meals include options from chicken noodle soup to herb salmon and soft tacos.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Classic car owners will join the Miles for Smiles Classic Car Cruise and Car Show on Sept. 6 in Hayden to support the Hayden Senior Center. The event will start at 10 a.m. with a parade by local senior homes and will add a 1950s rock and roll costume contest, silent auction, raffle, and lunch options + prizes at 1:30 p.m.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Museum of North Idaho received a $10,000 matching donation from Larry Running—every dollar donated will be matched up to $10,000 to help expand the museum with a new underground exhibit hall, secure archives and administrative offices.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ten NIC students worked in the summer on biomedical research through the INBRE program—teaming with local labs and businesses to apply new techniques, while Gov. Little declared August as INBRE Month to honor their efforts. Some students earned awards and job offers as their projects advanced through internships, fellowships, and scholarship roles.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Kootenai Classical Academy earned Cognia accreditation on June 26 after finishing both internal and external reviews—its six-year term shows the school met tough quality standards. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Sunset Fire burning northeast of Athol has burned 3,230 acres and led to evacuations as nearly 700 firefighters work to contain it. Officials warn that worsening weather with upper 80s to low 90s and low humidity will increase the risk of rapid spread — residents should heed closures along the west shore of Lake Pend Oreille and follow shelter orders at Cocolalla Bible Camp and the Bonner County Fairgrounds.  KXLY

  • River City Physical Therapy marks 30 years today in North Idaho — its founders started the practice in 1995 and the office now serves over 8,000 patients a year while staff honor their journey. The business continues to thrive on community trust and word of mouth.  Coeur d'Alene Press
